Insomnia is a disorder when a person cannot sleep. There are several ways out there on how to overcome insomnia. If counting sheep does not work for you, then there are some ways that you might be interested in trying out.
Drinking warm milk
While this method has been around for ages, it still seems to work fine for most people. A theory pointed out that during the times of being a baby, we were used given warm milk which would essential put us to sleep. This "action and reaction" became hardwired in our minds which causes us to fall asleep when we drink warm milk. Now, this may not put you to sleep right away, but this will certainly give you a tired sensation. Again, this method doesn't work for everybody. In fact, people that are lactose intolerant should not try this method because they would be having more problems than just not being able to sleep.
Overtiring
While this is not recommended to do, trying to tire yourself out may eventually lead you to falling asleep; doing a couple of push-ups or going on a job can easily do this for you. This method tends to work for most people but it fails on two parts. For the first part, it's very seldom that a person with insomnia would want to do any exercises. Most likely, they are already quite tired and would not want to perform any strenuous activity. Secondly, if the exercises do not tire you out, you may end up still being awake and overly exhausted which may be a risk to your health.
Doctor's Advice
If all else fail, make sure you see somebody about your sleeping disorder. This is a better way to approach it because you want to make sure that it's just the minimal sleeping disorder and not something more serious. Inquire if the doctor has any suggestion for taking sleeping pills or any alternative methods. The doctor will most likely ask you if you have any health related conditions that may be affected when taking sleeping pills. Personally, I think a better alternative to taking sleeping pills would be buying a set of blind folds. While
